Wartislaw Swantibor

Wartislaw Swantiboricz († 1196), also Wartislaw Swantiboriz, Wartislaw II of Stettin or Wartislav the Younger, was castellan of Stettin. He was used as a member of a collateral line, the Swantiboriden, with the ruling in Pomerania grasping house.

Wartislaw is the only known son of Swantibor I, an otherwise unspecified occupied Pomeranian princes.

Beginning of the 1170er years to Wartislaw have passed the besieged by the Danes under King Valdemar Castle Szczecin to negotiations. In 1173 he founded the monastery Kolbatz.

After the death of Duke Bogislaw I of Pomerania he had in common with the Dowager Duchess Anastasia, the guardianship of the minor dukes Bogislaw II and Kasimir II This guardianship is considered strong evidence of his alleged relationship with the gripping house. He had the task of the Danish King Canute VI. seek its the Lehnserneuerung. However, it was during his reign a rebellion against Danish rule. Finally, Knut VI sat. from him in 1189 and determined the rügischen Prince Jaromar I. guardian of the young dukes. Wartislaw retired after the return from the public. From the late years only his death in 1196 is preserved in the records of the Kolbatzer monastery.

When his descendants two sons are known:

  • Bartholomew of Stettin ( † 1220 ), perhaps Castellan of Stettin
  • Kasimir († 1220 ), Castellan of Kolberg

It is disputed whether Bishop Konrad II of Pomerania ( † around 1233 ) was a son Wartislaws.
