Warty Frogfish (Antennarius maculatus )

The Warty Frogfish (Antennarius maculatus ), also known as Clown Anglerfish due to its colorful drawing, a maximum of 15 inches long representative of the angler fish ( Antennariidae ). He belongs to a group of closely related species to the Painted Frogfish (Antennarius pictus).

Features

The Warty Frogfish is covered as an adult animal with numerous warts. It is usually white or yellow, with irregular rust-red spots and so resembles an overgrown by calcareous stone or a sponge. but there are also green specimens with an irregular white drawing and round black and yellow spots. Young Warty Frogfish are brightly colored white, lined yellow and red and imitate with their drawing - toxic nudibranchs snails. They live much less hidden than adult animals. The Angel ( Illicium ) is twice as long as the second ray of the dorsal fin. The bait (esca ) resembles a small fish.

Dissemination

The fish live in the Indo-Pacific, from the Maldives and Mauritius, on the islands of Indonesia and the Philippines to the Solomon Islands. Hold on to fifteen meters in coral reefs in shallow water, at depths of one.
