The wash house is one of the most popular party and leisure facilities Potsdam.

History

The building was built as the Royal Garrison steam Waschanstalt according to plans by Baurat Bernhardt and Garrison building inspector Bohm 1880/82. Even before there was a smaller wash house the 1840 planned by Carl Hampel and later served as the inspector's house, which is now known as Offizze.

Both built from red or yellow- red brick buildings are interesting relics of the industrial culture and the Prussian architecture at the site. The chimney at the wash house was the large steam boilers and was designed particularly ornate.

By the year 1988, when a fire put the equipment out of service, the building was operated as a commercial laundry, last by VEB Rewatex. When it was closed in 1990, neglected the building. Only in 1992 it was gutted in the course of an artist's squat and then expanded for the event operation. In 1993, the wash house eV was founded and began operating regular culture.

2002, the establishment of 150,000 people attended. On two levels offer different premises with a total area of about 1200 square meters of space for events in the fields of pop, rock, jazz, electro, visual arts, film / TV, dance, theater, literature and various course program.

From the beginning of June 2007, the laundry and the Offizze were renovated.
