Washim district

The district Washim ( Marathi: वाशिम जिल्हा ) is one of 35 districts in the state of Maharashtra in India. The city of Washim is the administrative center of the district. The last census in 2011 showed a total population of 1,197,160 people.

Population

The urban population accounts for only 17.66 percent of the total population. A clear vast majority of the population are Hindus. The Buddhists and Muslims are significant minorities. In 2001, of 1,020,216 inhabitants, 746 841 Hindus ( 73.20 per cent), Buddhists 150 580 ( 14.76 percent) and 111,863 Muslims ( 10.96 percent).

Significant places

Strongest town inhabitants of the district is the main town Washim. Other important cities with a population of more than 25,000 people are Karanja ( Karanja Lad ), Mangrulpir and Risod.
