Washington County (Alabama)

Washington County is a county located in the state of Alabama in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Chatom. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

Geography

History

Washington County was formed on June 4, 1800 from parts of the Mississippi Territory. It was named after President George Washington. The first seat of the county government was in McIntosh 's Bluff, then Wakefield and St. Stephens. Today it is Chatom.
