Washington County (Iowa)

The County is located in southeast Iowa between the Iowa River and the Skunk River and is located about 45 km to the east from the Mississippi River, which forms the border with Illinois. History

The first settlers settled down in 1835. The Washington County was formed on January 18 original in 1838 as Slaughter County. A short time later was renamed Washington County, in honor of George Washington.
