Washington County is a county located in the U.S. state of Mississippi. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Greenville.

History

Washington County was formed on January 29, 1827 from parts of Warren County and the Yazoo County. It was named after George Washington (1732-1799), the commander of the Continental Army in the American Revolutionary War ( 1775-1783 ) and first President of the United States ( 1789-1797 ).
