Washington State Route 106

Washington State Route 106 (SR 106) is a 32 km long State Road in Mason County. It leads from U.S. Highway 101 (U.S. 101) in Skokomish for Washington State Route 3 south of Belfair. The highway was established in 1964, but was previously a part of other sections of the primary road network in the state.

Route description

State Route 106 begins at a fork in the road on U.S. Highway 101 in the census-designated place (CDP ) Skokomish, north of Shelton. From this intersection, the road leads to the southeast, bridges the Skobob Creek and then meanders on the banks of the Skokomish River and Annas Bay to the village of Union. From there, the route on the southern shore of Hood Canals and on Twanoh State Park runs past the intersection with Washington State Route 3 south of Belfair, where it ends. The section before the intersection with SR 3 in Belfair was used in 2011 an average of 5,900 vehicles a day. In 1970, the same stretch sailed 2000 vehicles on a daily average.

History

The first maintained by State Street on today's route was established in 1915 by the Washington State Legislature and the Department of Highways State Road 21, led by Skokomish to Kingston. State Road 21 1923 State Road 14 and was named the Navy Yard Highway. As of 1937, the State Primary and Secondary Highways einrichtete, was State Road 14 to the Primary State Highway 14 ( PSH 14). The section Skokomish - Gorst in 1955 the Primary State Highway 21 slammed. In the renumbering of highways in Washington from 1964 PSH was divided into 21 SR 106 SR 3 and SR 104.

In recent years, the Washington State Department of Transportation ( WSDOT ) has carried out some improvements to the road. 2005 was replaced on the Skobob Creek culvert with a bridge; the station is around 1.4 kilometers east of Skokomish. A traffic light was installed at the intersection of SR 106 / SR 3 south of Belfair 2007.
