Wasit Province

Al- Wasit (Arabic واسط, Wasit DMG ) is an Iraqi province on the border with Iran.

Size and population

The governorate is 17,153 km ². There are about 890,000 people. The capital is Kut, which is also the name of the governorate was until 1976. The name comes from the Arabic word Wasit, which means middle. So the position between the cities of Baghdad and Basra was clarified. Governor Latif al - Tarfa is currently.
