WASP -5 is an approximately 300 parsecs ( 1000 light years) distant star that is orbited by an exoplanet. The located in the constellation Phoenix star belongs to the spectral class about G4 V and has an apparent magnitude of 12.3 mag. With a surface temperature of about 5700 Kelvin, the star of the sun is similar, also the age ( 3-4 billion years) is in the range of age of the sun.
Planetary companion
The exoplanet with the systematic name WASP -5 b was discovered using the transit method within the SuperWASP project by observations in the years 2006 and 2007 ( Anderson et al., 2008). It has an orbital period of 1.63 days, its mass corresponds to 1.6 times Jupiter's mass and its radius 1.2 Jupiter radii. The semi-major axis of the orbit measures about 0.027 astronomical units.
