Architectural History

Today Wat Khung Taphao was founded during the brief Thonburi era, although previously a temple of unknown origin called Wat Khung Samphao ( วัด คุ้ง สำเภา ) was present, which probably came from the time of the Kingdom of Ayutthaya. After a flood of ubosot 1929 was rebuilt.

Later the course of Nan changed slightly so that the temple is about 700 meters from the river bank today.
