Watch the Throne

Watch the Throne is a collabo album by Kanye West and Jay- Z, which both published under the name The Throne. It was released on August 8, 2011 by Roc -A -Fella Records, Roc Nation, and Def Jam Recordings. The album is the genre Hip- Hop attributed.

Formation

It was recorded the work, among others, in New York, Sydney, Paris and the Real World Studios in Wiltshire, England. The production was made in Paris, Abu Dhabi, New York and Los Angeles. In an interview with Billboard said Jay -Z, that they have often met in hotel rooms. The last song No Church in the Wild was completed in June.

Chart success

With a chart entry at number one in Switzerland, number two in Germany and twelfth place in Austria Watch the Throne is the most successful works of the two artists in the German-speaking countries. In the U.S., it reached the fifth album by West and Jay-Z as the twelfth from the top position and achieved platinum status in September. In the charts of the year it was able to position number 14. The iTunes Store is presented with 290,000 downloads in its first week, a record.

Singles

Back in January published the two H • A • M a digital pre-released single, which debuted at # 23 in the USA. In July, followed Otis (feat. Otis Redding ), the video was directed by Spike Jonze in Los Angeles. End of the year appeared Niggas in Paris, the song became the most successful title of the album and landed at position 5 of the U.S. Billboard charts. Otis and Niggas in Paris were both certified gold in December. The next single was released Gotta Have It addition with Lift Off (feat. Beyoncé) and Why I Love You ( feat. Mr Hudson ) were published two airplay singles. In Germany Niggas in Paris rose to No. 50 of the download charts. In the official Media Control Charts for the first time the title was placed in June 2012 and reached half a year later, with place 40 its maximum position.

Critical review

The reviews of Watch the Throne fell largely positive. The newspaper Die Welt described it as the hip- hop album of the year " thanks to the rapper's most important and the most important hip- hop producers ." Also the entertainment magazine mbeat praised the album as a summit of the most influential hip-hop icons and awarded full marks. Allmusic wrote that his best moments were among the most important rap music of 2011.

Only a few critics like in The Independent commented negatively to Watch the Throne: "Sometimes it takes more than just combined star power to make good music. "
