Water level
As water level (WS ) the amount of a natural or artificial water mirror relative is referred to a defined mark.
As height reference used
- For the sea and open waters, a level zero, which is usually set well below the usual water levels in order to avoid negative values . This zero point is connected by leveling to the reference level of the respective land surveying.
- When groundwater is the terrain surface. It will be the first measurement step, the distance between the water table and field edge / top edge well determined (see also the monitoring well ).
- For shipping a chart datum.
- An arbitrarily defined fixed point is measured relative to the (eg a Mühlpfahl ).
- In vessels or larger containers directly on a vessel or in close proximity mounted measuring brand.
