Water polo at the 1960 Summer Olympics

In the XVII. 1960 Olympic Games in Rome was held a water polo tournament, which lasted from August 25 to September 3. The games were held at the Stadio del Nuoto and Piscina delle Rose.

Tournament

The 16-team Olympic tournament played in the first round in four groups against each other. The first two teams of each group went up into the round of the last eight, with the results of the preliminary round were taken. In the second round now even those teams played against each other, which had not been met each other in the preliminary round. The first two teams in the second round went on to the final round for the places 1-4, the other teams in the second round played for the places 5-8; the results of the previous rounds were taken.
