The individual paddle strokes are used here to drive the boat to slow down, to control or to give the boat added stability in unstable equilibrium on the water.

The paddling differs in several respects from rowing. It only uses a paddle, which is free to move, and you move forward in the viewing direction. The lack of leverage a paddle boat is generally much slower than a rowboat, but it is subject due to the smaller span and higher maneuverability lesser restrictions in the choice of the waters.

In addition to the control of individual beats, planning is important. The paddling to route must be considered as well as the weather and the water level.

In addition to the entering and exiting the control of the appropriate rescue techniques is essential.
