Active reactors ( gross ):

The nuclear power plant Waterford ( engl. Waterford Steam Electric Station, Unit 3) is a nuclear power plant with a pressurized water reactor, which was built by Combustion Engineering. It sits on a 12 km2 large industrial zone next to the chemical complex Dow Chemical St. Charles Operations in Killona, Louisiana in St. Charles Parish, 35 km west of New Orleans, Louisiana.

History

The construction of the nuclear power plant was begun in 1974 and 1985 it took on the commercial operation.

While in August 2005, Hurricane Katrina devastated large areas of Louisiana, the reactor had to be shut down. Since the external power supply failed due to network fluctuations, the nuclear power plant had to rely on their own diesel generators for their own use during the period.

In June 2008, Entergy has requested authorization for the replacement of steam generators, the reactor pressure vessel head and control rod control system, which is planned for 2011.
