Wau is a city in Papua New Guinea in Morobe Province. It has 12,912 inhabitants together with the adjacent wood industrial city Bulolo.

Wau Bulolo was like one of the boomtowns of the Papuan gold rush in the 1920s and 1930s. It is about 1,000 meters high in the Finisterre Range. The place is with its pine forests as very pretty and the climate with its cool nights pleasant. The architecture of many houses in the gold rush and colonial make it historically interesting.

The airport of Wau, with its extremely steep airstrip was during the gold rush period in the years 1937 and 1938, one with the most landings in the world.
