Wavves

Wavves is an American pop punk band from San Diego, California. You currently have a contract with Mom Pop.

History

Wavves started in 2008 as a musical project of founder Nathan Williams. Wavves released several Seven Inch singles and a cassette. This was followed in quick succession, the first two albums, Wavves and Wavvves. After they get attention quickly with these albums, Ryan Ulsh came as tour drummer to and Wavves toured for the first time by the United States and Europe.

Wavves Wavves released their debut album in 2008 on Woodsist Records, which was highly praised especially for Pitchfork Media. At the time, the band merely from Ulsh and Williams. This is also reflected in the extremely raw lo-fi sound of the plate.

Her second studio album, Wavvves appeared on February 3, 2009 and was again well received by music magazines like Spin or Pitchfork.

The singer Nathan Williams helped contribute to the Primavera Sound Festival 2009 in Barcelona for negative talk about, as it was impossible for him to play the set, the audience insulted and quarreled on stage with Ulsh. The crowd pelted him then him with bottles and shoes. Then Wavves called off their planned European tour. Williams later admitted to have consumed an unfavorable mix of ecstasy and Valium before the concert. The next day, Williams apologized for the concert and gave his alcohol addiction. As Ulsh then left the band, Zach Hill met briefly added from the California music duo Hella. Two members of the former band of the late Jay Reatard then were added in November 2009, Billy Hayes and Stephen Pope. Williams also reported that an album with Zach Hill on drums could be expected for the end of 2010, together with a possible EP.

The third Wavves album called King of the Beach then appeared on August 3, 2010. The album received positive feedback for Pitchfork Media The album was ranked # 50 of the best albums of 2010, while Spin placed the album at # 24.

In autumn 2010, Nathan Williams was arrested during the European tour in Munich for drug possession and had to spend a night in jail.

In November 2010, Billy Hayes left the band and was replaced by Jacob Cooper. This gave Wavves announced on her Twitter account.
