Wax (UK band)

Wax was the name of a pop duo in the 1980s. It consisted of the former 10cc musicians Graham Gouldman and Andrew Gold. In the U.S., they were listed as Wax UK.

Band History

While Gouldman was from the beginning with this 10cc, gold was in the 1970s still a successful solo artist and the album Ten Out of 10 (1981 ) the band as a guest musician, co-writer and producer here. From this acquaintance, the two-man project Wax developed after the end of 10cc.

First, the group was called World in Action. But as the first single, Do not break my heart and a produced album called Victoria were very unsuccessful, they changed the name to Common Knowledge. This group name also was unsuccessful, so that you for the third time changed the name to Wax. The previously -produced album was initially not published.

In the fall of 1985 released the duo's first album Magnetic Heaven. Their single Right Between the Eyes reached in the spring of 1986 in the charts, although only rear placements, but was a big radio hit. Ever Wax with Shadows of Love, American English, In Some Other World, Wherever You Are and Anchors Aweigh had indeed between 1986 and 1989 a whole series of radio success, the record sales remained far behind. In addition to Right Between the Eyes was ( Building A) Bridge to Your Heart 1987 their biggest hit, which reached the German single sales charts as a single and reached number 5 of the airplay charts. Both songs are still frequently played radio classics today.

As well as their third album, 100,000 in Fresh Notes (1988 ) did not bring the big commercial success, Gouldman and Gold parted and went back to the roots: Gouldman was in the reunification of 10cc going gold teamed up with his old colleagues from the Bryndle band together.

In 1998 published the first created gold and so far relatively unknown album under the name Wax successful band and the title common knowledge.com new and added four new songs that he had recorded in his home studio. A collection of outtakes and rarities, Bikini Wax, was released in 2000 on the site of gold.

Gold died in the summer of 2011 in the United States.
