Wayne Horvitz

Wayne Horvitz ( born September 1, 1955 in New York) is an American jazz musician, composer and bandleader. He plays piano, Hammond organ and synthesizers. Wayne Horvitz also works as a music producer.

Biography

Horvitz had as a child piano and flute lessons. He studied at the University of California, Santa Cruz and has already appeared during this period with their own groups. Back in New York, he moved in the "Downtown " scene. He works and lives with his wife, the pianist and singer Robin Holcomb, since the mid-1990s in Seattle.

Musical work

In addition to numerous own music projects since the late 70s Horvitz is known to a wider audience with his involvement in projects by John Zorn as the band Naked City. He has worked with many experimental musicians, especially in the area of ​​new music and jazz. He is involved in numerous recordings by John Zorn, but also by Marty Ehrlich, Robin Holcomb, Eugene Chadbourne, Bill Frisell, Tenko, Jon Rose, Zeena Parkins and David Moss. He also worked on recordings by Peter Apfelbaum, Jerry Granelli, Karen Pernick and Michael Shrieve.

For their joint album " Nine Below Zero" received Butch Morris, Bobby Previte and he 1987 Prize of the German Record Critics.
