Wayne is a Township in Passaic County, New Jersey, United States. In the 2000 census, a total population of 54 069 has been registered.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 65.2 km ², of which 61.7 km ² of land and 3.5 km ² ( 5.44% ) is water.

According to the census of 2000, there are 54,069 people, 18,755 households, and 14,366 families residing in the city. The population density is 876.4 inhabitants per km ². 90.05 % of the population are White, 1.66% African American, 0.10 % Native American, 5.67 % Asian, 0.02 % Pacific Islander, 1.17 % from other races, and 1.34% mixed race. 5.09% are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 18,755 households 34.4 % have children under 18 years. 66.4 % are married couples living together, 7.6 % are single mothers, 23.4% are non-families, 20.2% consist of single-person households and 10.1% in people older than 65, the average household size is 2, 74, the average family size is 3.19.

23.2 % of the population are under the age of 18, 8.1 % from 18 to 24, 27.6% from 25 to 44, 24.9% between 45 and 64, 16.2% older than 65 is the average age 40. The ratio of women to men is 100:90,6, for people older than 18 years, the ratio 100:87,4.
