Web Processing Service

A Web Processing Service (WPS ) is a mechanism to perform over the Internet, a spatial analysis of geographic data. 2007 Version 1.0.0 of the WPS standard was defined by the Open Geospatial Consortium ( OGC). It defines the manner in which a client interacts with a geo-service in executing a geographical analysis. He gets them access to pre-defined calculation rules or models, which are, together with the required spatial data on a server.

Examples provided by WPS processes of geographic information systems (GIS ) known functions, such as buffers or intersections education. A WPS can process both vector and raster data. The WPS specification defines three mandatory operations or requests ( which is to be the client -server communication based on XML):

Thus, there are similarities to other OGC interface specifications, such as Web Map Service ( WMS) and Web Feature Service (WFS ).
