Weber number

The Weber number (symbol: ) is a dimensionless parameter of fluid mechanics. It serves as a measure for the droplet deformation and, in particular the characterization of the atomization of a spray; The larger it is, the greater the deformation effect of the incoming flow to the drops and the further the droplet was removed from the spherical shape. It is the ratio of inertial force deforming the relative flow to the surface stabilizing force of the drop.

The Weber number is, inter alia, an important metric to characterize Zerstäubungsvorgänge or dispersion processes and interpreted. It is named after Moritz Weber ( 1871-1951 ).
