Weberbauerocereus albus

Weberbauerocereus is a genus of flowering plants of the cactus family ( Cactaceae ). The botanical name of the genus honors the Prussian biologists August Weber Bauer, who explored the Peruvian Andes.

Description

The species of the genus Weberbauerocereus grow shrubby to tree-like, branching at the base or above. Sometimes they form tribes. The columnar shoots are erect or bent, and sometimes climbing. From the white to yellowish, woolly areoles forth thorns, which are often strong.

The large, tube- to bell-shaped flowers are whitish, brownish or reddish pink and open mostly at night. The Perikarpell and the corolla tube are densely covered with scales and hair.

The spherical, greenish purple to orange yellow fruits have diameter of 3 to 5 centimeters and are occupied with conspicuous hairs. The flowers rest is persistent, the flesh white. The fruits contain shiny black seeds.

Systematics and distribution

The species of the genus Weberbauerocereus are common in Peru and northern Chile.

The first description of the genus was made in 1942 by Curt Backeberg. The type species of the genus Cereus fascicularis sensu Meyen Backeb. ( Weberbauerocereus weberbaueri ). Belong to the genus of the following types:
