webERP

WebERP is a web based ERP system, which is under the free license GPL.

The software project was founded in 2001 and is one of the few free ERP systems. In early 2003 it was released and has since been actively developed. The current version is 4.11.1 (6 September 2013).

The system is designed for the U.S. market, but can be fully customize. There are (as of 2013) 26 different localizations for the user interface, for example, a German, French or Italian. Country-specific requirements such as accounts, currencies and units can be configured via the web interface. A comprehensive, English documentation on the operation and program extension is available.

The operation is menu-driven. The menus are designed as a hyperlink lists, there is very little JavaScript and Ajax techniques such avoided altogether. This increases compatibility with multiple platforms (eg mobile systems ), although the more comfortable operation can suffer.

Use the main menu to reach the individual modules, which are divided into three areas: operations, evaluations and data maintenance. Unlike other products, the selection of elements is not made via a listbox, but each element is implemented as a button in a list. The search function in the modules does not provide output of all records, but you have to explicitly enter a search term.

Unusual is the second menu on the main menu that gives quick access to customers, products and suppliers. There, a search is offered on the a complete edition of the respective data sets can take place. In addition, you have access to appropriate, further program functions, as compared to a context menu. This shortcut menu associated with the important functions in the modules, so that, for example, in the supplier search selects a supplier to acquire a goods receipt for a purchase order from this menu.

The publication under the GPL allows commercial, license-free use. Since it is a web application, the software can either be directly tested on the webERP webpage or with a custom installation in the intranet or from a provider.

The product is not marketed commercially and is suitable in scope rather for small businesses. Despite several years of existence and over 700 downloads per month, the project in Europe is rather unknown. On SourceForge, projects that build on webERP find.

WebERP requires PHP, a web server and a database. Usually GNU / Linux comes with Apache and MySQL to use, other configurations are possible.
