Webster County (Mississippi)

The Webster County is a county located in the U.S. state of Mississippi. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Walthall. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

The County is located in north-central Mississippi and has an area of 1096 square kilometers, of which two square miles are water. It is bordered by the following counties:

History

The Webster County was formed on April 6, 1874 from parts of Chickasaw, Choctaw, Montgomery and Oktibbeha County. It was named after Daniel Webster (1782-1852), a U.S. Senator from Massachusetts (1827-1841, 1845-1850) and Secretary of State (1841-1843, 1850-1852 ).

According to the census in 2000 lived in Webster County 10,294 people in 3,905 households and 2,877 families. The population density was 9 people per square kilometer.
