Geographical location

Wegscheid lies in the Danube- forest in the southern Bavarian forest in the district of Passau on the Austrian border and on the B 388, which leads into the 33 km distant Passau and in the opposite direction, 21 km away Rohrbach (Upper Austria ). After Hauzenberg is 17 km and 24 km of forest churches.

History

Wegscheid was founded on an important trade route from Passau to southern Bohemia. Wegisceda (1130 ) received its name from the three incipient branches here. Probably a parish was already present at that time.

On September 16, 1360 Bishop of Passau, Gottfried got the place to market. This meant that the citizens of Wegscheid with cattle, grain, wood, etc. were allowed to drive trade. Bishop Georg von Hohenlohe was in the Freedom Charter of 1404 the market the right to hold a weekly market every Monday, in 1497 came a year to market.
