Geography

Geographical location

Defense lies with its southern part of the municipality ( Brennet ) directly on the Upper Rhine, while the eponymous nucleus about five to six kilometers north of the Rhine is at its right tributary Wehra. North and east of Wehr rises the southern part of the Black Forest. West of defense begins Dinkelberg. The settlement area extends from the nucleus, which is located directly at the outlet of the Wehra from the Black Forest, south, along the lower Wehra over Öflingen after Brennet on the Rhine, which forms the border with Switzerland here.

Weir is connected westward over the Eichener height with Schopfheim and southward with Bad Säckingen. North Eastwards wehraaufwärts you get to Wehrastausee and continues through the deeply cut here and wild Wehratal to Todtmoos.

History

Weir was first mentioned in 1092 by Adalgötz of Werrach, 1363 was the place market rights.
