Weidling (boat)

A Weidling is a flat boat, usually 10 meters long and has a weight of about 320 kilograms. It is currently manufactured partly of plastic, but with many traditional wooden versions as well as rare metal versions exist. There are also the long ship, which brings it to 15 meters in length and 1,700 kilograms in weight. The Weidling is traditionally pushed in deep water with one or two standing and rowing in shallow shore area with one or two so-called spines upstream. At suitable banks of Weidling can also be taken from the land, a process known as towing. If the boat at the stern has a corresponding recess in the floor, it can also be fitted with an outboard motor.

This boat goes back to the Celts and is around 5000 years probably one of the oldest ship types in the world. It is still widely used, especially in Switzerland on rivers and lakes. It is also modified both in the private sector as a leisure and pleasure craft, as for transferring Put boat used in the water riders ( Ponto kidneys, Engineer Corps ) of the Swiss army. The sport of water rafting is operated solely with Weidling.
