The wine Saalfelden railway station is a railway station in the town of Weinfelden and the largest railway junction of the canton of Thurgau. It trains of the SBB and the Thurbo which operate together with half hourly free long-distance trains and lines of the S- Bahn systems of Zurich and St. Gallen.

History

The plans for the Weinfelden station began 1853. Weinfelden was set as one of 13 stations along the railway from Lake Constance Romanshorn to Oerlikon. Immediately afterwards drove to the machinery. The station was reopened after almost two years of construction on May 16, 1855 together with the first stage of Roman horn to Winterthur by the Swiss Northeastern Railway. The station building, designed by Jakob Friedrich Wanner, who had already designed the station building of Winterthur and the Zurich main station, was completed in 1863 and 1864.

1876 ​​Bischofszellerstrasse railway was opened to Gossau SG, officially in Weinfelden has its starting point, but only in Sulgen station branches off from the Bodensee web. 1902 reached the station in possession of the newly founded SBB. For crossing station it was removed in 1909 when the construction of the then Mittelthurgaubahn their range of Wil SG via Weinfelden began to Kreuzlingen railway station. After two years of construction, the line was opened to traffic on 18 December 1911.

1970/71, the station building was completed by the architect Max Vogt to a toilet / service building.

1994 was taken from the MThB with the Seehas a transboundary Lake Constance S -Bahn in operation, which change trains sailed the entire MThB original route of Weinfelden about Constance to Engen. This compound was prepared with the MThB liquidation and takeover by the SBB - daughter story Thurbo 2002 and was divided into three Thurbo regional trains Engen - Konstanz, Konstanz Weinfelden and Weinfelden -Wil. The run for the takeover in SBB hands MThB former depot was abandoned in 2007.

In view of the railway in 2000, the station was subjected to a thorough renovation in 2002. The old station building was renovated and given a SBB travel center and snack bar, platforms and platform roofing have been completely rebuilt. From the artist Thomas Rutherfoord an architectural art - work in the form of dark red glossy color reliefs based on a previously precipitated because of the conversion, copper beech was designed outside the station in the course of the renovation.

From March to September 2012, the route Weinfelden -Wil was completely closed due to extensive renovation work. The operation was converted to bus and thus the travel time between Wil and Weinfelden extended by 20 minutes. However, for a 20 -minute intervals instead of the usual hour clock ( single time to kick 1/2-h-Züge ) was offered.

Plant

The station complex comprises five tracks, four platform and a through track:

  • Track 1: Highway to Romanshorn or Constance, S5 to St. Gallen, Regio to Konstanz
  • Track 2: Through track for shunting and freight
  • Track 3: Highway to Biel and Brig ( IR or IC)
  • Track 4: S30 to Winterthur, S7 to Rorschach, Regio to Wil and Constance
  • Track 5: S8 to Pfäffikon SZ, Regio to Wil, morning and from noon to night south to St. Gallen

The tracks 1 and 5 are located on a side platform, the tracks 3 and 4 form a central platform. The tracks 4 and 5 have in the platform center of a lane change, so that they can be occupied simultaneously by two trains, which can also overtake each other. In practice, this is mainly applied in the track 4.

Future

Only eight years after the great conversion work, the main hall of the SBB in the station building was rebuilt again .. reason is that the Valora AG instead of the previous Kioskes new plans to open a branch of its convenience retail chain Avec. Therefore, the main hall moved to the south in the western part of the building, the rest of the ground floor, together with the present kiosk rooms in the east wing is used by the Avec branch since April 21, 2011.

Friday to Weinfelden circulating S8 now also on Saturday led to Weinfelden - timetable change 2010/2011 is so far only Monday.

The wine Saalfelden train station is almost exactly in the middle of Weinfelden. However, the center is north from the station.

Transfer

The change at Weinfelden station is easy. But unfortunately it has partially only 3-4 minutes, and then it's only another 4 tracks removed. Nevertheless, the underpass is very small, so one is from track 1 has one minute at track 5
