Weinitzen is a municipality with 2586 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) north of Graz in Styria, in the district of Graz-Umgebung.

Geography

Geographical Location

Weinitzen lies directly north of the provincial capital of Graz in Graz Hill Country. Through the village flows the Schöcklbach, a tributary of the River Mur. But the Schoeckl itself is not in the municipal area.

The municipality comprises the cadastral Fölling Niederschöckl and Weinitzen.

History

The church in its present form since 1938, have been incorporated as part of the community to Graz.

Weinitzen

In 1572 a forest Forest is mentioned near the St. Ulrich Church as " the Weinitzen ". Then the name of the local church dates back later. 1754, the first census was carried out.

Structures

  • The weather tower in the district Niederschöckl is the mean between the brick also Wetterturm Rinnegg (municipality Sankt Radegund ) and the wood on the Schaftalberg (municipality Kainbach in Graz). Traffic

Weinitzen is located on the main road from Graz to Sankt Radegund bei Graz in the recreation area of the Schöckl.The. The Phyrn motorway (A9) is about 10 km away and can be reached via the junction Gratkorn (173). The Weiz Straße (B 72) from Graz to Weiz is about 4 km away.

In Weinitzen there is no train station. Graz Main Train Station is about 10 km away.

Distance from Graz airport is around 20 km.

Coat of arms

With effect from September 1, 1979 Weinitzen was given the right to run their own coat of arms: In a silver shield triple barbless Red Angel, abgeledigt from their hooks right curved ever a pedunculated away introspective red vine leaf grows.
