The Welch Township is one of 10 townships in Cape Girardeau County in the southeast of the U.S. state of Missouri.

Geography

The Welch Township is located approximately 15 kilometers west of the Mississippi River, which forms the border with Illinois. The mouth of the Ohio at Cairo at the interface of the states of Missouri, Illinois and Kentucky is located approximately 80 km south-east.

The Welch Township is located at 37 ° 11'08 " north latitude and 89 ° 44'51 " west longitude and extending over 154.23 km ², spread over 153.86 km ² land and 0.37 km ² water surface.

The northern boundary of the township is the Headwater Diversion Channel, a man-made flood channel which receives next to the Castor River and the Whitewater River a number of other rivers and south of the town of Cape Girardeau in the Mississippi River empties.

The Welch Township borders within the Cape Girardeau County on the northwest by the Liberty Township, on the north by the Hubble Township and the north- east by the Cape Girardeau Township. In the southeast, the Welch Township is adjacent to the Scott County, to the south by the Stoddard County and on the west by the Bollinger County.

Traffic

In northeast-southwest direction, the Missouri State Route 25 runs through the entire Township. In the far eastern Welch Township, the Missouri State route 77 in north-south direction.

By Welch Township runs a railway line of the BNSF Railway, which runs from the Mississippi River in southwestern direction.

The nearest airport is around 20 km east of the township located in Cape Girardeau Regional Airport.
