Weld County, Colorado

The Weld County is a county located in the state of Colorado of the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Greeley.

Geography

The County is located in northeastern Colorado, at the eastern foot of the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains. It borders the U.S. state of Nebraska. The area is 10,416 square kilometers, of which 75 square kilometers are water surface. Parts of the county pervades the Pawnee National Grassland and the South Platte River. The U.S. Highway 85 runs through the county.

History

Weld County was one of the first 17 counties of the state of Colorado. It was established on 1 November 1861. On February 9, 1887, the present-day counties Washington County, Logan County, Morgan County, Yuma County, Phillips County and Sedgwick County were formed from parts of the county.

The county is named after Lewis Ledyard Weld, a lawyer and politician. He died during the American Civil War.

Economy
