Geography

Geographical Location

Welfesholz is about 4 km east of Hettstedt and 14 km north of Eisleben at the intersection of L72 and L158. Directly to the west adjacent to the Welfesholz ( a grove ); the now disused railway line Halle Klaustor - Hettstedt touches the place in the south. In the resort began earlier a stream flowed to the southwest from this. Located north of Welfesholz Bach Red Wave is still flowing. The valley of this stream makes a natural impression, halfway between Welfesholz and Sander life lay the deserted Red Wave. Southeast of town location, the valley of the war, the war here means border. Through this valley the river dried up in 1826 Sohlbach. In another valley south-east of the village lies the deserted village Nisselsdorf.

Monuments

There are several unusual stones in Welfesholz and the surrounding area. At the northern end of the village stands the medieval stone cross coming Welfesholz. Another, highly weathered stone cross stands on the road to Gerbstedt. Also worth mentioning is the so-called Verwohrene stone, a medium-sized freestanding nail rock next to a hunter in a field north- west of the town, and the foraminous stone. History

In the Battle of the Welfesholz on February 11, 1115, there was a confrontation between imperial and Saxon troops, who could decide the Saxons themselves.

On 1 January 2010 the municipalities Welfesholz, Augsdorf, Friedeburgerhütte, Hübitz, Ihlewitz, Rottelsdorf, Siersleben and Zabenstedt merged with the city Gerbstedt the new city Gerbstedt. The administrative community Gerbstedt, belonged to the Welfesholz, was dissolved.
