Wellington Railway Station

Wellington Railway Station (English Wellington Railway Station) is located in Wellington, New Zealand. The head station is the southern terminus of the railway line North Iceland Main Trunk Railway, which connects Wellington with Auckland. Mainly here have lines of the suburban network Tranz Metro originate and develop the Wellington region. In addition, the station of the long-distance trains Northern Explorer ( Auckland ) and Capital Connection ( Palmerston North ) and the long-distance buses of the company Intercity frequented. History

1933, in the middle of the 1930-1936 lasting period of economic depression in New Zealand, the construction of a new central station and the administrative seat of the railway in Wellington was decided as one of the few railway construction projects. The station was built in 1934-1937 and released after the opening of the two stations Lambton and Thorndon from. At the time, the station was the largest building in the country and was established as one of the first earthquake-proof. It was designed by architect William Gray Young Station in Georgian architecture. Construction took over the Fletcher Construction Company. The total cost of construction amounted to 350,000 pounds.
