Wellington is a market town with 20,430 inhabitants ( 2001) in the county of Shropshire in England and is part of the unitary authority Telford and Wrekin.

The roots go back at least 1400 years Wellingstons, finds from the Iron and Bronze Ages as well as from the time of the Romans suggest that the area was inhabited earlier. The first name was Weo - leah - ingaton and indicates a Temple in the forest. It is believed that this comes from the time before the Christianization of Britain. Later, the name Watling Town was used as the village lies on the Roman road Watling Street, (now Wroxeter ) led from London to Viroconium.
