Wendeburg

Turning Castle is a municipality in the district of Peine in Lower Saxony. The place name is derived from the part " Castle " and the obvious determination word " Winethe ", the Germanic form "win- işi ", " winja " means pasture, so together Weideort, pasture site. However, the name can also be based on a Wendish settlement.

Geographical Location

Turning castle is located directly on the northwestern outskirts of Braunschweig. The townscape is dominated by agriculture. Have emerged in recent years in all districts development areas. History

Where previously the military road from Brunswick crossed the floodplain to Celle, sometime in the High Middle Ages ( 12th or 13th century ), a castle was built. The oldest designations are as follows 1196-1197 Winetheburg and Wenedeburch. It is advisable that a naming exists, which refers to the tribe of the Wenden. Documentary or archaeological evidence for the establishment of contact there is not here. The place name with the syllable " turn" could point to the contact, but " contact " on a persons name Winetho, Wendo, or similar to, or with the verb or with a corner ( = turn ) are a ( district ) boundary in the context - all opinions. Naheliegendst however - starting " Winethe " - the interpretation as " pasture ", which is explained with the situation in the Aueniederung. The "castle" may have had its place at the site of the present St. Mary's Church. St. Mary's Church, with the church tower from the years 1250-1300, is the oldest building in the village. On 1 May 1981, the municipality was newly formed Didderse spin-off from the community Wendeburg and incorporated into the Gifhorn.   • The first force post- bus line from Heinrich Bussing

In 1903 Heinrich Bussing introduced the first motor lorry constructed by him to the public. Only half a year later the first motor bus with 20 seats was ready. After years of testing quarter Heinrich Bussing taught on June 5, 1904 his first bus line between turning castle and Brunswick. The bus, which was received on the initiative of the then turning burgers Pastor Otto Hayder, gave him the opportunity to continue his bus to test its permanent control.
