The wine community Wendelsheim located in the largest wine-growing district of Germany and driving middle of the wine growing region of Rheinhessen. By Wendelsheim flow of Wiesbach and Finke Bach (Meadow Brook ).

History

History

Was mentioned in a document Wendelsheim ( Wenilsheim ) for the first time 766 in the Lorsch Codex (other sources cite a deed of gift for the monastery of Fulda from 841 ). Celtic finds prove but already settlements in prehistoric times. As with all places in the region with the suffix "- heim" it would be a Frankish settlement.

Wendelsheim probably belonged to the oldest possessions of the game count. It is believed that it belonged to the Amtsgut with which the Emichones had been equipped as a sub- graph of the Salian. Since 1370 demonstrably were manorial rights of the Count Palatine Ruprecht I of Wendelsheim. In 1380 the place where Count Palatine Ruprecht the boy and 1438-1452 to the Count Palatine Ludwig IV was pledged.

1398 and 1409 is Wendelsheim a fief of the Rhine Palatinate Gräfliches Count Johann von Dhaun to Rheingrafenstein. Medieval sources describe the Count of Dhaun as top Vogt and lawful men of the village court and the district Wendelsheim.

From 1475 until the French Revolution is Wendelsheim under the rule of the Counts of Salm (see Rhinegraves ).

In the wake of the Congress of Vienna Wendelsheim came in 1816 with the Grand Duchy of Hesse. After the Second World War the town was eventually assigned to the state of Rhineland -Palatinate.

Church History

By " Wörrstädter Union " in 1822 were all Rhinehessen communities united confession, ie the previously independently coexisting Protestant churches ( Lutheran and Reformed ), merged to form the " Evangelical Church ".
