Wendy Toye

Wendy Toye, actually Beryl May Jessie Toye, CBE ( born May 1, 1917 in London, † February 27, 2010 in Hillingdon, London) was a British film director, actress and choreographer.

Life

Toye has performed at the age of three years at the Royal Albert Hall as a dancer. At the age of nine years, she performed with their own choreography at the London Palladium. She had her film debut in 1932 as an actress and worked from 1936 as a choreographer in various film productions. In 1950 she was co-director for the Broadway production of Peter Pan with Boris Karloff and Jean Arthur in the lead roles, two years later she turned with The Stranger Left No Card a first short film, which won at the International Film Festival in Cannes with the Grand Prix been. 1956 her short film On the Twelfth Day was nominated for an Oscar and for a British Film Academy Award. At the Berlinale 1963, she chaired the jury. Your last film was a reworking of her first film, The Stranger Left No Card as an episode of the TV series Tales of the Unexpected. In 1992 she was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire ( CBE).

Toye was 1940-1950 married to Edward Selwyn Sharp.
