Wense (Osterheide)

Wense is a village in the Heidmark in Lower Saxony, a municipality in the north of the district Osterheide.

History

Wense centuries was dominated by the family of the Wense. Documented the noble family of the Wense the first time in 1322 is mentioned. Time they purchased the monastery Walsrode from land and settled there. The family also included the so-called Ohlehof at Wense and the Good Dorfmark.

In connection with the upgrade of the Wehrmacht was due to the sparse population and varied landscape which Heidmark to the creation of the largest training area of the Wehrmacht, the present-day military training area mountains selected. 1935/1936 the inhabitants of this village were thus resettled. At the time of resettlement, the village Wense counted 148 residents. Today there are approximately 40 residents in Wense. The family of the Wense got a new place to live in Ellerbruch.
