Weppersdorf (Hungarian: Veperd, Croatian: Veprštof ) is a market town with 1828 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in Burgenland in the district Oberpullendorf in Austria.

Geography

The larger municipality located in Central Burgenland. The municipality consists of the cadastral Kalkgruben (362 inhabitants), Tschurndorf ( 496 inhabitants) and Weppersdorf ( 988 inhabitants) together. (Register 2011 census ) Weppersdorf lies at the foothills of Sopron and the Landseer Mountains. By Wepper villages Hotter flow victory grave creek that Schwarzenbach, which unite in Weppersdorf to Stooberbach, and the mill race creek. Highest mountain Wepper village is the fox bolt.

History

Before our era, the area was part of the Celtic kingdom of Noricum and belonged to the area of the Celtic hillfort castle on the Schwarzenbacher Castle Hill.

Later, under the Romans today Weppersdorf then lay in the province of Pannonia.

The place was like the rest of Burgenland to 1920/21 Hungary ( German West Hungary). Since 1898, had to be used because of Magyarization the government in Budapest the Hungarian name Veperd. After the end of World War II German West Hungary was awarded in the Treaties of St. Germain and Trianon in 1919 Austria after tough negotiations. The place belongs since 1921 to the newly founded State of Burgenland (see also history of Burgenland ).

In the years 1930/31, the Protestant Confessing Church (AB) was built.

  • Mayor Erich Zweiler (SPÖ ), Vice- Mayor Franz Geissler ( SPÖ). To the mayor of Kalkgruben Johann Binder ( SPÖ) was ordered. Office manager is Andrea Bschaden.
  • The distribution of seats (21 seats) in the municipal council is 16 SPÖ and ÖVP 5. Freedom Party, the Greens and other lists have no mandates.

Incorporations:

In 1971, the formerly independent communities of limestone caves, Tschurndorf and Weppersdorf were merged for greater community Weppersdorf.
