Werndorf is about 15 kilometers south of the provincial capital of Graz in Graz Basin. The municipality is situated on the Mur.

There are no other cadastral except Werndorf, the community area is 6.24 km ².
1144 Werndorf was first mentioned as a donation to the monastery of Rein. The pin was until the abolition of the manors in 1848 the largest landowner on the spot. The local churches as autonomous bodies created in 1850. Werndorf came as a control community to community Kalsdorf. 1914 decided the Styrian Landtag due to frequent disputes the separation of the village Werndorf of the community Kalsdorf, but this was only implemented on 18 January 1917. After the annexation of Austria in 1938, the community came to Reichsgau Styria, 1945-1955, she was part of the British zone of occupation in Austria.

The award of the municipality coat of arms came into effect on 1 October 1983. Coat Description: Green on a silver crown an octagonal silver screen board, is growing a black panther.
Culture and sights
The Bicycle Museum Neumühlestrasse is located in the outbuildings of an old mill and is privately owned. It houses everything " around bikes " from the penny-farthing about the Niederrad to the sport bike as exhibits and on the (old) photos.
Economy and infrastructure
Werndorf is good transport links. The Phyrn motorway (A9) is tangent to the municipality and is the connection point Wildon (202 ) can be reached in about 3 km. The Grazer Straße ( B 67 ) from Graz to Leibnitz runs right through the community.
Werndorf has a freight terminal for combined transport on the southern railway and its own railway station. Here run mostly every hour in rush hour or at shorter intervals, S -Bahn trains to Graz and pitch - road. The bus from Graz to Leibnitz also operate on Werndorf.
Graz Airport is about 8 km away.
The Isovolta was founded in 1949 in Werndorf. Today, a part of the production is located in the community. The U.S. chemical company Cytec is a resident of Werndorf.
