Werner Buchholz (historian)

Werner Buchholz ( born January 25, 1948 in Berlin ) is a German historian and since 1994 Chair of Pomeranian History and Area Studies at the Ernst- Moritz- Arndt- University of Greifswald.

Life

Werner Buchholz studied from 1970 to 1978 at the Universities of Bochum, Marburg, Stockholm and Åbo Akademi history, Scandinavian and German. In 1973, he put in Åbo from the Kandidatexamen and 1975 in Marburg the state exam. In 1978 he received his doctorate in Modern History. From 1979 to 1985 he worked in the higher education service.

In 1985, he received a Habilitandenstipendium the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, the 1990 and his habilitation at the University of Hamburg on the topic of public finances in Swedish Pomerania. From 1992 to 1994 he worked for the Foreign Service in Athens. 1994 Werner Buchholz was appointed to the Chair of Pomeranian history and regional studies of the Ernst- Moritz- Arndt- University of Greifswald.

Werner Buchholz is author and editor of writings on the history of Pomerania, Germany and Sweden.
