Werner Caskel

Werner Caskel ( born March 5, 1896 in Gdansk, † January 28, 1970 in Cologne) was a German historian, Professor of Oriental Philology and author of historical works.

Caskel received his doctorate in 1924 in Leipzig and in 1928 he completed his habilitation in Berlin. From 1930 to 1938 he was a lecturer in Greifswald. In 1946 he was appointed professor at the Humboldt University in Berlin, and from 1948 until his retirement in 1964 he taught at the University of Cologne. Caskels focal point was the Islamic history and genealogy.
