Werner Hamacher

Werner Hamacher ( born 1948 ) is a German comparatist and literary theorist. He is one of the few thinkers in Germany, which rezipieren the philosophemes and thinking strategies of poststructuralist deconstruction productive and which are perceived internationally. As one of the translators of writings Paul de Man and Jacques Derrida, he made ​​important contributions to teaching these theorists.

Biography

Hamacher studied at the Free University of Berlin and the École Normale Supérieure in Paris, comparative literature, philosophy, German and Religious Studies. Among his academic teachers in Paris was Jacques Derrida, who has just as Paul de Man, greatly influenced his work. He completed his studies with a thesis on Hegel's dialectical hermeneutics.

From 1984 to 1998 he was a professor of German and the Humanities at Johns Hopkins University. Visiting professor, he held, inter alia, at Yale University, the University of Amsterdam and the École Normale Supérieure. From 1998 to 2013 he was Professor of General and Comparative Literature at the Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main, since 2003 also works as a Global Distinguished Professor at New York University.
