Werner Rathmayr

Werner Rathmayr (born 26 January 1972 in Linz ) is a former Austrian ski jumper of the 1990s.

Career

Werner Rathmayr started his professional career in January 1990 in Innsbruck. Already in Sapporo he surprisingly won his fourth World Cup competition on the large hill on 15 December 1991. This was followed by a second place in Oberstdorf in the Four Hills Tournament and other top ten finishes. He finished the season off on the second place overall. In the following season he made with a double victory in Falun on 5/6 December 1992, two second places in Ruhpolding and Sapporo one or two weeks later, and another top ten rankings attention. After a bad fall at the World Championships in Falun Rathmayr could not connect to past successes. In early 1995 he finally ended his career in show jumping, ski flying in early 1997.

Rathmayr was after his active career coach of the Austrian B- squad in ski jumping. In addition, he gives ski jumping courses for amateurs.

Rathmayr was known for his characteristic jump style that was characterized by numerous corrections with the hands and fingers during the flight phase and earned him the nickname "Pianist of the Air" earned.
