Werner Stauffacher

Werner Stauffacher was the Sage Tschudi by the emissary of the Urkantons Schwyz, of the Rütlischwur, along with Walter Fürst for Uri according to the legend on 8 November in 1307 ( mentioned in the other variants also called William Tell as representatives of Uri) and Arnold MELCHTAL of Unterwalden, on the Rütliwiese founded the Swiss Confederation high above Lake Lucerne.

Reason for this confederation were plans of Roman-German King Albrecht I, the three original cantons to take their imperial immediacy to the Holy Roman Empire of the German nation and to make it Habsburg Lehnslanden.

Friedrich Schiller immortalized Stauffacher 1804 in his play " William Tell ". During the Second World War Stauffacher was in the movie Landammann Stauffacher the symbolic figure of " spiritual national defense ."

Historically

As evidenced from history, several men were from the family of Stauffacher in the 13th and 14th centuries Landammänner of the ancient land of Schwyz. Werner Stauffacher was the time of the Battle of Morgarten in 1315 Landammann, and probably also the successful leader of Schwyz and its Miteidgenossen. In the Zurich city circle Aussersihl was from the late 19th century Werner Stauffacher namesake of a group of closely adjacent streets and squares: Stauffacher Strasse (1893 ), Stauffacher Platz (1898, 2003 renamed Ernst Nobs Square), Stauffacher Bridge ( 1899), Stauffacherquai (1902 ); later was added the tram stop Stauffacher whose name has passed to an entire section of road. Other Swiss towns with a Stauffacherstrasse are Arbon, Bätterkinden, Bern, Emmen bridge, Lugano, Schaffhausen and St. Gall; a Stauffacherweg there in Lucerne, Solothurn and Zuchwil.
