Werner Tochtermann

Werner daughter (b. May 30, 1934 in Pforzheim ) is a German chemist and emeritus professor. From 1976 until his retirement in 1999, he was Professor of Organic Chemistry at the Christian -Albrechts -University of Kiel. His field of work was the chemistry of medium and large rings, the synthesis of cyclophanes and the Heteroquadricyclan → Heteropin rearrangement, eg for transformation of furans to oxepins (also known as Prince Bach Tochtermann sequence known). His son is Klaus Tochtermann.

Life

From 1953-1960, he studied chemistry at the Universities of Münster and Heidelberg, and completed his dissertation under the supervision of Nobel Laureate Georg Wittig on. After postdoctoral work as an assistant to his former teacher, he started in 1962 his own research in the field of the seven -membered ring systems. In 1965 he was appointed lecturer at the University of Heidelberg and called 1972 a AH4 Professor of Chemistry at the Technical Commercial at the Technische Hochschule Darmstadt. From 1976 until his retirement in 1999 he worked as a full professor at the Christian -Albrechts -University of Kiel on the following fields:

  • New Ways to medium and large rings ( Targeted fragrance synthesis)
  • Application of ultrasound in organic synthesis ( Barbier, Lemieux and Wittig reaction )
  • Synthesis of unnatural carbohydrate analogues ( Bridged Desoxyfuranoside and furanoses, disaccharides, nucleosides, glycolipids )
  • Stereoselective synthesis of Perhydroazulenen ( Lactarane, Tremulare, Merulane )
  • Strained benzene derivatives ( cyclophanes ) and ansa compounds
