Werner von Moltke

Werner Konrad Graf von Moltke ( * May 24, 1936 in Mühlhausen, Saxony Province ) is a former German athlete who was successful in the 1950s and 1960s in the decathlon. It comes from the Mecklenburg noble Moltke.

Werner von Moltke started for TSV Ellwangen, Stuttgarter Kickers and the University Sports Club Mainz. He had a competition weight of 90 kg at a height of 1.90 m. 1958 and 1968 he became German champion in the decathlon. The European Athletics Championships 1962 in Belgrade, he won the silver medal - just four points beaten by the then world record holder, the Russian Vasily Kuznetsov - and at the European Athletics Championships in Budapest in 1966 the title in the decathlon.
