Werner Widmayer

Werner Widmayer ( born May 17, 1909 in Kiel, † June 14, 1942 in Russia ) was a German football player and the older brother of legendary football coach Herbert Widmayer. He played in both the club and the national team as a midfielder.

Life and club

The meteoric rise of the committee strong and technically very savvy Werner Widmayer began at the age of ten years at the Kiel Sports Association Holstein from 1900 eV. Offering imaginative play he got regular applause and quickly became a fan favorite. With its 5 hits in the championship round shot Werner Widmayer, behind Josef Schmitt ( 1.FC Nürnberg ) with 7 gates and Willi Kirsei (Hertha BSC) with 6 goals, to third place scorer.

National

One year after the German Football runner-up of 1930 Werner Widmayer was nominated for the German national football team. On a northern tour, he played on 17 June 1931 in Stockholm against Sweden (0-0 ) and on 21 June 1931 in Oslo 2-2 draw with Norway for Germany.

Particularity

Widmayer was the older brother of the Bundesliga coach Herbert Widmayer, which was founded in 1961 German champion and 1962 German DFB Cup winner with the 1st FC Nuremberg.
